15 YEARS CREATING SPACES FOR NATURE

ATN is a non-profit environmental organization that dedicates its work for nature conservation and preservation of the natural heritage at the Côa Valley. Within the vision Creating spaces for nature, for the past 15 years ATN has been doing a path way distant from the other Portuguese ENGO, as its effort is focused on buying land for conservation. ATN is the owner and manager of the Faia Brava Reserve, recognized by ICNF in 2010 as a Protect Area, the first in Portugal managed by a private organization. Faia Brava has around 900 hectares across the deep valley of Côa, which is a preferred place for cliff breeders, such as eagles, the Egyptian vulture or the griffon.

ATN’s proprieties are, in fact, from its 620 members that every year contribute for the conservation actions’ maintenance. Besides, ATN is the official manager Western Iberia, one of the 7 Rewilding Europe Areas, and it is also responsible for the promotion of the Côa Valley Grand Route, a 200km pedestrian trail that connects the river spring to the river mouth.
